It’s worth a read either way.The following is a short story I wrote in the Elantris world back in January of 2006. Though knowing nothing about Mistborn might make it feel a little exposition-heavy. Sanderson even managed to squeeze in some world-building since we’re supposed to be able to read it without having read any of the Mistborn books. But even if we never get that, this little glimpse did a great job of showing what Kell was going through at the time, and it lets us see the thought process that led to his plan to try and kill a god-like being. I love Kelsier, and I’ll never say no to more stories with him anyway, but this especially makes me want to see more of his journey after his escape. It introduced us to a more vulnerable version of Kell. This story follows Kelsier, and it’s set just a few months after he escapes the Pits of Hathsin, and I really liked it. It was a half-hour (maybe less?) well spent. And that’s all there really is to say about it. It’s a sweet story set during the events of Elantris, though there’s also a teenie-tiny glimpse of life after. I thought the story was good, and I liked the protagonist. I liked being back in the world of Elantris, even for a little while.

It’s a bonus short that won’t really enhance anything for you. And I’ll tell you right off the bat that if you’re looking for a story that’ll make some huge contribution to Elantris, this isn’t it. This is a story that Sanderson wrote partially to fill a gap in the climax of Elantris and partially for a fan. Series: Elantris #1.5 (Do NOT read before Elantris) Rating, if you need one, is 4 and 4.5 stars respectively. And since reading has been at an all-time low this past week or so, I thought I’d take the time to read a couple of the bonus stories.īoth stories can be found in Arcanum Unbound, but The Hope of Elantris is also available for free here. And as I make my way through the Cosmere stories, I don’t want to miss anything. They’re supposed to be connected, but I haven’t gotten that far yet. Especially the Cosmere, which, if you didn’t know, is a shared universe for several of Sanderson’s series- Elantris, Mistborn, Stormlight Archive, etc.

I haven’t read all his books, but I am making my way through them. I think I’ve made it obvious over the years that I’m a huge fan of Brandon Sanderson.
